FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most common questions I receive about therapy and my practice.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet and for you to share what has brought you to therapy. I will ask about your current difficulties, background, and what you hope to achieve. This is also your chance to ask any questions and see if you feel comfortable working with me. There is no pressure to commit — it is important that therapy feels right for you.
Do you offer a free introductory call?
Yes, I offer a free 10-minute phone call so we can briefly discuss your needs and whether my approach might be a good fit. This is completely informal and there is no obligation to book a session afterwards.
Are all sessions online?
Yes, all sessions are held online via video call. Online therapy is just as effective as face-to-face therapy and offers greater flexibility — you can access support from wherever you feel most comfortable.
What should I expect from online therapy?
Online therapy works in much the same way as face-to-face sessions. We meet via video call at your scheduled time. You will need a private, quiet space with a reliable internet connection. Many clients find online therapy more accessible and comfortable — there is no commute, and you can attend from wherever suits you best. Research consistently shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for the difficulties I specialise in.
How long does therapy typically last?
The length of therapy varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people find that 6–12 sessions are enough, while others benefit from longer-term work. We will regularly review your progress together and adjust the plan as needed. You are always in control of how long therapy continues.
Is everything I share confidential?
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Everything discussed in our sessions remains strictly confidential, with very limited exceptions required by law — for example, if there is an imminent risk of serious harm. I will explain the boundaries of confidentiality fully in our first session.
How much does therapy cost?
Individual therapy sessions are £180 for a 50-minute session. I also offer clinical supervision at £85 per session. A free 10-minute introductory phone call is available to discuss your needs before booking. Please visit the Fees page for full details.
How does payment work?
Payment is required at the time of booking to confirm your session. Your session is not confirmed until payment has been received. This helps me manage my practice effectively and ensures your slot is secured.
What is the difference between a counselling psychologist and a clinical psychologist?
Both are doctoral-level, HCPC-registered practitioners trained to work with a wide range of psychological difficulties. Counselling psychologists place particular emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and an integrative approach, drawing on multiple evidence-based models to tailor therapy to each individual. Both titles are legally protected and require the same level of professional regulation.
Do I need a GP referral?
No, you do not need a referral from your GP to see a private psychologist. You can contact me directly to arrange a free introductory call or book a session. However, if you are also receiving support from the NHS, it can be helpful to let your GP know.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice will not be refunded. I understand that emergencies happen, and I will always try to be flexible in genuinely exceptional circumstances.
Do you work with young people and adolescents?
Yes, I work with young people aged 14–18 experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, self-harm, self-esteem issues, and emotional regulation challenges. I involve parents or carers where appropriate, ensuring the whole family feels supported while respecting the young person's growing independence. If you are a parent considering therapy for your child, I am happy to discuss this in a free introductory call.
Do you offer clinical supervision?
Yes, I provide clinical supervision for trainee psychologists on their doctoral programmes. I have three years of experience supporting doctoral candidates through their training. Supervision sessions are £85 for 50 minutes.
