About Me

Helping people live with greater clarity and confidence

I am Dr Kate Ryan, a Counselling Psychologist registered with the HCPC and a member of the British Psychological Society. I completed my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DPsych) at Regents University London, where I also graduated with a first-class BSc in Psychology and was awarded the academic achievement award.

I have worked across NHS and private settings, with particular experience in addiction services, including alcohol, drug, and process addictions, as well as eating disorders and presentations such as ADHD and borderline personality disorder.

My counselling style is integrative. I draw on CBT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy, family systems work, humanistic psychology, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), tailoring my approach in collaboration with each client. I see the therapeutic relationship itself as key to promoting positive outcomes, and as such I work in a relational style.

I also provide clinical supervision for trainee psychologists on their doctoral programmes, with years of experience supporting candidates through their training.

My Approach

Integrative, evidence-based, and tailored to you

I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Instead, I draw on a range of evidence-based models to create a treatment plan that is uniquely suited to your needs and goals.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

A structured, evidence-based approach that helps you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. NICE-recommended for a wide range of difficulties.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness to help with emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness — particularly effective for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

Psychodynamic Therapy

Explores how unconscious processes and past experiences shape present-day feelings and behaviour, helping you develop deeper self-understanding.

Family Systems Work

Considers how family dynamics and relational patterns influence individual wellbeing, helping you understand your role within wider systems.

Humanistic Psychology

A person-centred approach grounded in empathy, unconditional positive regard, and the belief in your inherent capacity for growth and self-actualisation.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Helps you develop psychological flexibility by learning to accept difficult thoughts and feelings while committing to actions aligned with your values.
